6. Geneva

Geneva was only about a 30 minute train ride from Lausanne, and I had a free train pass, so I spent a day exploring Geneva. I walked up the United Nations building, but I don't recall entering any buildings. Mostly I walked around the lake-front where the fountain is.

Gas about about $0.60 per liter or $2.40 per gallon - about double what it cost in USA at the time

In USA clerks stand up and bag your groceries. In Europe they sit and you bag your own - you are lucky if they have any bags.

I saw the TGV "bullet-train" in the Geneva train station. In 1986 we rode the TGV from Paris to Lyon on the way to Geneva!

I liked the "heavy roof" style of houses in Switzerland
