On the drive from USC to Anaheim we stopped at Long Beach. First we had lunch in the Promenade Cafe on the Queen Mary, which I had never visited. It was a quiet atmosphere, next to windows overlooking the harbor. The music was Jimmy Durante, which would have been from that era. We were then able to walk around the deck. Next I toured the Scorpion - an actual Russian submarine. Turned out no one else was on the self-guided tour for the entire 30 minutes - very cool to have the experience to myself. When it was operating there would have been 70 unbathed crew and stale air, submerged for several days. Interesting, it is a "Hybrid": It has three 2000 hp diesel motors that charge batteries that can power it underwater for about 10 days.
The barrack at the bottom is the entrance to the Russian Submarine.
One of the photos from the virtual tour on the website.
Tess on the deck of the Titanic - I mean the Queen Mary - I get the two confused.
