1972 Swope school bus stalled on Hunter Lake Drive, Reno

In winter of 71-72 when I was in 8th grade our school bus from Swope Junior High School stalled at the top of Hunter Lake Drive while turning onto Daniel Webster Drive - where the bus stop was. Without the engine the driver lost the power brakes and steering. Luckily the wheel was turned so we stopped at the embankment rather than careening backwards down the hill. I ran home and to my camera to capture the exciting event.

Both the bus and the yellow pickup truck in background are brand "IH" "International Harvester."
We owned two IH Travelall - the original SUV - from 1960 to 1970. Their more popular model was "Scout."

The embarrassed bus driver - I think we called her "Twiggy" (Google it). That's my black lab Arthur inspecting the damage.
