1. FlightsThe flights were about the same as they would be today: 5 hour flight in a Boeing 737 from San Francisco to New York. Then an 8 hour flight in a 747 to Zurich, Switzerland. I hated New York airport. The security guards (pre "TSA") were rude about scanning my camera. Then the bus drivers were on strike and not stopping at certain terminals. If you ask "ok, so you don't stop at Northwest, what is the closest stop to Northwest?" They would just repeat their "due to a labor dispute we do not stop at ...." Anyway looking out the window flying over USA and then France, I noticed the difference - USA land parcels are laid out in grids, while in France they are random, following natural boundaries.

France - no grids |
