Historic Photos of Manila circa 1960

Return to Main Page

In 1984 Manila was an overcrowded, polluted city. I was amazed to find these photos circa 1960 of a much cleaner and nicer Manila. The Catholic Church needs to accept much of the blame for the degradation and suffering caused by overpopulation. The photos helped me better understand the Manila the Aurelia's father had grown up in. This should serve as a warning to USA and other countries - don't think that USA cannot suffer the same degradation... it is already well underway due to increasing population and gutting of our manufacturing base.

Dewey / Roxas Blvd without traffic jam - looking north - perhaps that is the reclamation for the cultural center

Postcard presumably from the same era

Amazing - clean streets - who was affording all of these new cars?
