Amnesty Protest - Sacramento - May 1, 2006

On May 1, 2006 I captured these photos of the protest at the Sacramento Capitol. The crowd was estimated at 18,000 -- less than the number of immigrants that enter the U.S. each week. They were chanting: ``Si Se Puede, Si Se Puede!'' - which in Spanish means ``Yes, it can be done.''

These images are compressed for the web. Please contact me for the originals.

The cops watch from a safe distance on the Capitol roof

NO on "Border protection, antiterrorism and Illegal Immigration." Viva la Taliban?

Capitol Mall - full nearly to Old Sacramento

These guys aren't sure which way the flag is supposed to go

Oh Look! A California flag behind the Mexican flags

"Justice" would be to enforce the law - I don't think that's the justice they want

The upside-down American flag was a common theme

SEIU provided these signs? What does advocating illegal immigration have to do with advocacy on behalf of union members, all of whom should be legal residents?

The SEIU Local 1877 banner on the lead vehicle. Other signs are SEIU Justice for Janitors

SEIU, CSEA and AFL-CIO are also advocating for flooding the U.S. with cheap labor? This cheap labor has destroyed the union wages that once made the construction trades desireable. NONE of the members of any of these unions should be illegal workers.

Because the 50 Pilgrims didn't clear customs in 1620, we should legalize 12 million illegals?

Nice hat, dude

Well, we've got the new U.S. flag thing going on

If all men are created equal, why can't I buy property in Mexico?

Signs, signs, everywhere the signs...

Mistreatment?

Wow, they traveled all the way from El Salvador just to be in the parade

But I thought that the Pilgrims were illegal immigrants?

Cactus-head has a message for you

My parents went to Mexico, and all I got was this bedsheet?

The opposition was out in full force

When I can move to Switzerland on that argument, I'll buy theirs
