Cal-Expo California State Fair - August 31, 2008

We spent the day and the California State Fair. By chance our friends Dirk and Maria were also there so we spent the day together.  The Wine Awards are here (PDF).

The State Fair includes the wine tasting. This Paso Tombstone was fantastic so I bought a bottle. I should have bought more. This is the first time I've seen the Dodge Challenger, modeled after the 1960's Challenger. But I don't think I'm in the market for a new one - the dealer price for this fully loaded version is over $50k - and it gets 13mpg city.

Say goodbye to the Challenger

At the bird exhibit an Amazon Parrot got on Tess' arm. We have a similar parrot, but it won't do this.

A feature this was the "Goes Hollywood" exhibit that included many movie artifacts, such as the Back to the Future Delorean

We enjoyed' Thomas' Health Craft demo. He lead off with several health tips, such as choose cane sugar over corn syrup, sea salt over Morton salt, don't use microwave open, don't use Teflon. But we weren't ready to spend over $1000 for a new set of cookware.

We ended the evening by riding several of the rides.  I snapped the above while riding the Round-Up

My favorite was the Evolution by Fabbri, which I rode four times.  I found it to be relaxing. The above YouTube gives the perspective from the ride. There has been at least one collapse on this ride.

The above is a short YouTube of the Evolution ride from the ground.

Mark decided he wanted "Uncle" Kim to accompany him on the rides

Let's go again! (Evolution ride visible in the background)
