Music Update - August 2008
I was able to dial in the Vocoder sound that I wanted. Unlike the old days where I'd then make an entry in a notebook describing how each knob was set, I just save a preset for the vocoder and the synth that provides the carrier sound (the "Wasp" in the image). You can hear MP3 HERE that demos it. (I'm saying "forsake the light, seek the lightening")
My latest addition, completing my virtual studio, on Friday I got an M-Audio that allows microphone input via USB. (It was a hassle configuring it. Then it broke the sound for my other audio software, such as Pinnacle studio.) This addition convinced me that I no longer need my hardware equipment. (The exception would have been for live performance.) I already sold two keyboards last year - one was a vintage "moog era" synth from 1980: http://www.kimberry.com/docs/forsale2007/
During mix-down the old way I'd have to leave effect and mixer settings on for weeks, precluding working on other projects until the mix was final. Some things could not be powered off. Now the entire studio mix is archived as "project save as.."

If the the following were a hardware studio it would represent at least $20,000 worth of gear, starting with a 64 track automated mixer. (I only owned a 4 track mixer in my hardware studio.)
