Dehydrated flax / pumpkin / sunflower breadApril 2011: I have owned an Excalibur Dehydrator (Model #3526T - don't get a model without a timer - purchased at the manufacturer here in Sacramento, California) for several years but only now had the idea to make raw "bread" from flaxseed, pumpkinseed, and sunflower seeds. I have had such "bread" at raw food restaurants and potlucks - but was not sure how it was created. Then, when considering that these seeds are healthier to eat after soaking, I found some recipes, such as this one, and decided to try it:
The first batch I made was sweetened and added grated coconut and cacao. The second batch i wanted something that could be used for sandwiches, so i only added sea salt and some pepper. The result is a very healthy and affordable bread substitute.
This is the second batch with minimal ingredients, added sea salt, pepper, and seaweed seasoning
This is the first patch where I went crazy to make a sweet healthbar. But it was better with some honey added.
Spread onto the dehydrator sheet - it took two full sheets
The result was two of these "cracker" things
I used some to make a tomato/onion/ground mushroom sandwich! (My 100% raw friends my cringe at the factory mustard and mayo) |
